I lived there in the late 70s. Very miserable other than a memorable train trip to Kyle of Lochalsh. The Student Charities Campaign rented a whole train and took 300 soon to be drunk students to Kyle of Lochalsh and back. We slept on the train before it left to guard the massive alcohol stash, left at 8 in the morning and got back at 3 the next morning after snow blocked the track. Very memorable other than cleaning the train. The only place colder than Aberdeen is my freezer.

They're lying and we all know it.
Yey! Mother/Daughter Junkies are my favourite sort!
Last time I was Aberdeen it didn't seem to be that close the whisky - ie there was nowhere we could drive to in an hour from that Pitfodels place.
From Aberdeen I then drove to Dufftown - hoping to find a romantic little town with rivers flowing with whisky.
What a ned-town! Tracksuited, plooky youths patrolling the streets, couple of dreadful pubs. Got out of there pretty quick.
